Training successful teachers

These hands-on workshops are a must for all teachers, administrators, and parents who want to teach beginning reading skills using the Direct Instruction programs. The programs are intended for students in Grade 1 or higher. Topics to be covered include: placement, lesson presentation formats, and error correction procedures.

Participants will learn and practice presentation techniques for teaching phonemic awareness, word attack, and story reading skills. Participants will receive a series guide as a part of the training package. Please note that teaching materials are not included in the price of the training.

Reading Mastery I/II & Fast Cycle

Reading Mastery is a mastery-based beginning reading program that teaches phonemic awareness skills, phonetic and structural analysis skills, and focuses on reading fluency. Reading Mastery I/II Fast Cycle will take a student from a beginning reading level to a late grade-two reading level in 170 lessons.

Corrective Reading: Decoding

Corrective Reading Decoding  

Corrective Reading: Decoding is intended for readers who do not read at an adequate rate and who confuse words. This program provides decoding instruction at the letter, word and sentence levels. Corrective Reading: Decoding focuses on reading fluency as well as literal and inferential comprehension skills.

Your Trainers

Jennie Wilson, M.Ed. is a Senior Consultant with Angus Lloyd Associates Inc. She received Direct Instruction Training Certification from the Association for Direct Instruction in Eugene, Oregon. Jennie has had several years of practical experience both in the classroom and at the Angus Lloyd Associates Inc. clinic.


Johanna Preston, M.A.Ed., O.C.T. OACCPP
is the Director of Education for Angus Lloyd Associates Inc. She has received training in Direct Instruction programs through the Association for Direct Instruction, and is certified as a Direct Instruction Trainer. She has trained teachers and education professionals in both private and public schools across Canada .

Workshops are held at 8 Lawton Blvd., located in the Yonge St. and St. Clair St. area of Toronto. If you are coming from the 401, take the Yonge St. south exit. Take Yonge St. south past Davisville Ave. until you come to Lawton Blvd. Lawton Blvd. is the first right turn after Davisville Ave.

Consulting Services

In addition to our one-day program trainings, Angus Lloyd Associates Inc. can provide ongoing coaching and observation for Direct Instruction users. We can assist with program placement testing, scheduling, and report writing. We are available for consultation on Spelling Mastery, Connecting Math Concepts, Corrective

Mathematics, Reasoning & Writing, Language for Learning, Corrective Reading: Comprehension, Corrective Reading: Decoding, and Reading Mastery I-VI. The nature and degree of support is determined on a per-client basis. Please contact our office for our current consulting rates.
