Acquired Brain Injury Academic Rehabilitation Program
Teacher Monitoring
When skills-based instruction is being provided by an agency or individual that is trained to deliver the specialized instruction but is not qualified as an ABI specialist, it is paramount that the implementation of programming as specified in the academic rehabilitation plan be closely monitored. This monitoring ensures that instructional intervention is dynamically adjusted so that it addresses changing circumstances, and that it is well matched to the individual learning style of the student. Monitoring the implementation of instruction ensures the strict adherence to the prescribed plan. Monitoring of teaching implementation includes the following:
Classroom Observation
Classroom observations are an integral part of the academic rehabilitation process. By observing students in the classroom setting we can better understand the challenges they face at school and how well they are prepared to meet these challenges. Furthermore, for students with brain injuries, classroom observations serve additional purposes:
- To evaluate the role of educational assistance within the school and coordinate this assistance so that it promotes the achievement of more student independence in a timely manner;
- To design effective teaching seminars for our client’s teachers so that they become more empowered to address issues specific to the unique learning needs of students with ABI;
- To provide additional information that may not be documented in a client’s file, such a the manifestation of executive function difficulty attributable to the head trauma within a classroom setting.
