Johanna Preston, M.A.Ed., O.C.T.

Ms. Preston is the Director of Education at ALA, where she has worked since 1996. She has considerable experience working with children with head injuries, seizure disorders, and other neurological disorders in a teaching and consulting capacity. She has received training in Direct Instruction programs through the Association for Direct Instruction (Eugene, Oregon), and is certified as a DI trainer and coach. She has trained teachers and education professionals in both public and private schools across Ontario. She holds a Master’s degree in Child Study and Education from the Human Development and Applied Psychology faculty at the University of Toronto and is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers.

Pierre Redman, M.Ed.

Mr. Redman has taught Direct Instruction programs and has been a key member of our team since 1998. He has a Master's of Education degree from the department of Curriculum Teaching and Learning at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Mr. Redman has worked with children with diverse learning needs. Currently, he serves as a Senior Consultant at ALA. In addition to his responsibilities as a Senior Consultant, he also administrates our SSAT Prep Program. Mr. Redman is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers.

Stephen Lloyd

Mr. Lloyd is the son of Angus Lloyd and has been a part of the company from the beginning. He handles the operations of the business including billing, systems and plant management.

Alanna Silver, M.A. O.C.T.

Ms. Silver has been part of the ALA team since 2009. Her current role as a Senior Consultant includes standardized assessment, ongoing consulting for new and long-term clients, and Direct Instruction teaching. She has experience with children diagnosed with autism, learning disabilities, giftedness, and attentional disorders. Alanna holds a Master's degree in Child Study and Education from the Human Development and Applied Psychology faculty at the University of Toronto. She is also a member of the Ontario College of Teachers.

Christa Waters, M.Sc. O.C.T.

Ms. Waters has been a part of the ALA team since 2015. She received training in Direct Instruction programs through the National Institute for Direct Instruction in 2023 (Eugene, Oregon), and is certified as a DI trainer. Her current role includes training and supervising ALA staff members, conducting Direct Instruction training, and Direct Instruction teaching. Christa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and a Master’s of Science. She is also a member of the Ontario College of Teachers.

Heather McFadzean, M.Ed. O.C.T.

Ms. McFadzean has been a part of the ALA team since 2010. She has classroom experience from her two years spent living and teaching overseas (London, England). She received training in Direct Instruction programs through the Association for Direct Instruction in 2017 (Eugene, Oregon), and is certified as a DI trainer. Heather holds a Master's degree in Education from the Human Development and Applied Psychology faculty at the University of Toronto. She is also a member of the Ontario College of Teachers.
